Coromandel Explorer
Take in the history of the rugged and beautiful Coromandel Peninsula.
We head off from our base at North Shore Airfield heading out toward Whangaparoa Peninsula before heading across the Hauraki Gulf toward Waiheke. You’ll fly between Motutapu and Rakino Islands, and along the way enjoy stunning views of Rangitoto, Auckland’s youngest and most dominant volcano. The flight continues along Waiheke Island’s south-western coastline and across Ponui Island, before heading across the upper Firth of Thames towards our destination of Te Koma. After landing, we begin a guided tour of the area, experiencing the history, artistic culture and ecological programmes on offer. After lunch we return to the aircraft to enjoy the rugged yet beautiful coastline and lush forest of Coromandel, while taking in the evidence of the gold-mining history of the area. After flying up the eastern coast of the northern end of the Peninsula, featuring spectacular views out to Great Mercury and Great Barrier Islands, we return back to base via Tiritiri Matangi Island, a forest and birdlife sanctuary within Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf harbour.
All Flight Hauraki flights include aviation headsets, so you can easily communicate with your pilot and friends or family.
